Green spaces such as parks and gardens, play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, enhancing air quality, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Beyond their environmental attributes, these spaces provide significant social benefits to the community, offering opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and social interaction.
Aiming for the public to rediscover green elements in their community, WWF collaborated with V’air, an environmental education organization that promotes sustainable local travel, to design a green community tour in Tsim Sha Tsui. The tour explored elements including green buildings, recycling facilities, and ecological hotspots. In a 2-hour journey, participants took a stroll on sites such as Green@Jordan, Kowloon Park, and the Time Ball Tower.
Through this in-depth guided tour, WWF aims for participants to appreciate Hong Kong’s unique biodiversity and ecosystem, explore how human activities contribute to global climate change, thereby understand the importance of sustainable development. Participants reflected that they felt empowered/motivated to embrace a low-carbon lifestyle after the tour, in hopes their action can contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable city for future generations.
