📣 Call for Enrolment 📣 2024 HKCSS x WWF “Sustainable Living” ESG Realisation Campaign
“Environmental, Social, and Governance” (ESG) has become a key focus for companies in recent years. Implementing ESG policies helps companies establish a sustainable business model, enhance brand image, and creates long-term value.
As such, we partnered with the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) to organize the “Sustainable Living” ESG Realisation Campaign. A total of 12 companies with over 1,600 employees participated in the program. The first phase successfully concluded in November 2023, followed by a recognition ceremony in December. We are thrilled to have Karen Ho, WWF’s Head of Corporate and Community Sustainability, together with Wendy Luk, HKCSS’s head of Stakeholders Engagement, Co-creation, to jointly present the certificates.
Our initial survey revealed that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) tend to assign responsibility for ESG implementation to their administration and human resources departments. However, most staffs lack ESG knowledge. In response, we assisted organisations in systematically designing and reviewing the effectiveness of ESG programmes through workshops and a Behavioural Practices Toolkit. This series of activities enhanced their internal communication and planning approaches for ESG policies, effectively integrating environmental and social elements into business operations.
During the four-month implementation period, participating companies integrated learnings from the workshops to develop action plans based on the five pre-determined themes. The participating teams gained the support of management and staff to successfully integrate ESG elements into their daily operations in an interactive manner, while receiving positive feedback from their colleagues. The success has encouraged them to continue applying the experience in implementing ESG linked programmes after the project.
HKCSS’s Head of Stakeholders Engagement, Wendy Luk, commented “HKCSS and WWF-Hong Kong have collaborated on multiple occasions to promote corporate environmental policies and programmes. However, SMEs often face challenges in terms of resources and manpower to kickstart such initiatives. With continuous encouragement and concrete suggestions from WWF-Hong Kong, and through open communication with various stakeholders, they were able to refine their strategies to make the programme more effective.”
On the overall performance of the campaign, Nik Sam, Project Manager from the WWF team, expressed, “We are delighted that participating SMEs are taking the first step, their success strongly depends on the drive for change within their organisations. We hope they will further utilize elements of the program in the coming days to bring about a new culture and value for their companies.”
We look forward to launching the second phase of the programme in the first half of 2024, allowing more organisations to participate and infuse sustainability into daily operations and lives through “Co-Creation”.
To kick-off the next phase, we will hold a sharing and briefing session on March 13th. Participating organisations of first phase will be invited to share their experiences and provide practical guidance to interested participants, helping them better understand the implementation process of the campaign.
